Distance Healing: A Personal Experience of Healing Grief from the Loss of a Beloved Pet
My precious fur-child, Kassie, had been slowly deteriorating for some time. She had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and placed on a series of medications about a year ago.
For the most part she was doing fine. We went on our walks, out to work together and, as usual was my constant companion.
As time progressed she was less able to finish our walk and wanted me to carry her. At 13 pounds this wasn't difficult.
Thursday morning, when I woke up, it was obvious she was in crisis. Since her usual vet was 30 minutes away, and I was in a state of worry and anxiety, I made an appointment for a vet a block away. In my heart of hearts I knew this was probably the end of our 11.5 year journey with each other.
I emailed family and friends for support, but told them I didn't want to talk to anyone. I just couldn't.
I listened as this new vet, who didn't know either of us, talk about the intense plan that was needed to stabilize her. Although I was glad for the second opinion, I was even more sure of what was coming, even though I truly wished his plan would work.
As he learned more about what I had done the last 12 months to assist her, and that she had almost died eight months before, he told me that euthanasia was a "reasonable" option.
As I listened I knew that letting her go was the most loving option.
I was with her when she took her last breath and felt her heart stop.
My family and friends were well aware of how important Kassie was to me. As I let them know of her passing, I received phone calls and emails giving me support.
I emailed a friend who does BodyTalk though distance healing, as I do, asking for a session. I'm in Houston and she is in Dallas.
Within a short time after her doing the session I felt tremendous relief. Yes, I was still hurting and grieving, but the pain was greatly reduced. I still cried at times, but I didn't feel as if my heart was breaking.
Buy the second day I was able to talk about Kassie without bursting into tears. That same afternoon I was able to move into a place of absolute appreciation for the years we had spent together.
Every once in a while, I still look down when I get up to be sure I don't step on her. And, yes, I still have that slight lifting of my heart when I come home expecting her excitement when she greets me.
But the intense, I can barely move, I can't talk to anyone pain is gone. I can talk to people about her. As much as I knew distance healing can and does happen, I'm grateful to have benefitted from it in such a powerful and life giving way.
